Position Summary:
Reporting to the Operations Manager, the Registered Practical Nurse is responsible for the provision of safe, effective and ethical nursing care. The Registered Practical Nurse will assess and oversee all patient care plans by collecting, recording and reporting patient information as appropriate; identifying medical problems and participating in their resolution in conjunction with the addiction team members. The Registered Practical Nurse works with addiction system partners to ensure a seamless and coordinated client flow from admission to transition into community programs and services. The Registered Practical Nurse complies with the Occupational Health and Safety standards for the hospital and is proactive in promoting a safe work environment.
Qualifications:
Thorough knowledge of nursing principles, procedures, and practices in accordance with the Standards of Practice of the College of Nurses and the regulations of the Regulated Health Professions Act (RHPA)
Two-Three years’ experience in mental health and addictions (inpatient acute/tertiary) – preferred
Demonstrates excellent mental health and substance addiction assessment skills
Knowledge and skills in a range of therapeutic approaches, including brief therapies, motivational interviewing, general understanding of cognitive behavioural therapy with individuals and groups, stages of change as it relates to substance addiction
Ability to problem solve and work both independently and as a member of the interdisciplinary team
Excellent communication skills; Proficiency in French language is an asset
Education and/or Certification:
Graduate of an approved Registered Practical Nurse Program
Current certificate of Registration issued through the College of Nurses of Ontario – required
Certification in Mental Health Nursing – preferred
Current CPR certificate - required
