Position Summary:

Reporting to the Operations Manager, the Registered Nurse in the Electroconvulsive Therapy assignment utilizes a client-centered, recovery-oriented, mental health service delivery model. Using the principles of client-centered care within the context of an interdisciplinary team approach, the Registered Nurse will provide service to those with mental health and addiction disorders. The Registered Nurse collaborates with interdisciplinary team members, program psychiatrists, physicians, educational resources and other health care professionals. The Registered Nurse will be a clinical resource within the multidisciplinary team. In addition, the Nurse will provide education to the department staff both formally/informally that is consistent with best practices regarding the care of the patients with serious mental illness. The Registered Nurse complies with the Occupational Health and Safety standards for the hospital and is proactive in promoting a safe work environment.



Qualifications:

·         Minimum of 1 years’ experience in Psychiatry Nursing - Preferred

·         Minimum 1 year outpatient Mental Health – Preferred

·         Recent experience (within the last 2 years) in the administration of Electroconvulsive Therapy - required

·         Knowledge of relevant legislation; Mental Health Act, Substitute Decisions Act, Health Care Consent Act - Preferred

·         Competent in 12 lead EKG interpretation and defibrillation – Preferred

·         Demonstrated ability to work in a collaborative team approach and adhere to accepted standards of personal conduct

·         Thorough knowledge of nursing principles, procedures and practices in accordance with the standard of Nursing Practice of the College of Nurses and regulations of Regulated Health Professions Act (RHPA)

·         Excellent communication skills; Proficiency in French language is an asset



Education and/or Certification:

·         Current certificate of registration issued through the College of Nurses (CNO)

·         Current BCLS and ACLS-  Required

·         Recent experience (within the last 2 years) in the administration of Electroconvulsive Therapy - Required

·         Competent in 12 lead EKG interpretation and defibrillation- Required

·         Mental Health Nursing Certification- Preferred
